Kan testresultaterne fra personlighedstestning påvirke, hvordan informanterne forstår, føler og tænker om sig selv?
Abstract
This thesis investigates if test results from personality tests can influence how participants understand, feel and think about themselves. This has been examined through two perspectives; The trait approach using Big Five and HEXACO and narrative psychology described by Bruner. Trait approach has been used to explain personality testing and narrative psychology explains the dynamic interaction between individuals and the culture they live in.
Two participants have been interviewed and tested over the course of a month, to figure out whether personality testing can change how the participants understand and describe themselves.
This thesis found that participants described and understood themselves differently before and after participating in a personality test and hearing the test results. In most of the cases they changed the descriptions to match the description from the test. The participants also emphasized new sides of themselves that they didn’t mention before the test. All in all, the study argued that personality testing could have influenced how the participants understood, felt and thought of themselves which is in accordance to Bruners narrative theory.
